Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort Review

Beautiful location. Great for smaller Class A’s. A hard pass for big rigs like our 45' Newmar London Aire.

If you’re searching for an honest review of Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort, here’s the real story—because our experience was very different depending on the RV.

1. Location is the biggest selling point

This resort is in an incredible location on Hilton Head Island. You’re close to everything that makes Hilton Head so desirable:

  • Restaurants

  • Shopping

  • Biking trails

  • Beach access

  • Island attractions

This is one of those parks where you can park and actually enjoy the area without constantly needing to drive.

2. We loved it in our smaller RV

When we first stayed here in our Winnebago View, we absolutely loved it.

It felt upscale, convenient, and had that Hilton Head island charm. At that size, it worked great.

That positive experience is exactly why we came back.

3. Coming back with our big rig was a completely different story

Fast forward to bringing our 45-foot Newmar London Aire…

Huge mistake.

At the time, we were newer to big-rig RVing and didn’t fully understand how tight this resort really is.

The roads are narrow.
The turns are tight.
The landscaping is mature and overgrown.

It took golf carts in front and behind us just to help guide us through the park.

That should have been our first sign.

4. Our assigned site was impossible

When we finally got to our site, it became obvious immediately:

  • Tree limbs hanging low

  • Extremely tight corner lot

  • Brick walls bordering the site

  • No room to comfortably extend slides

The site simply was not realistic for our coach.

And honestly, it should have never been assigned to a rig our size. There were a few sites that might have accommodated us but, they were taken and honestly just getting in the park is so stressful.

5. To their credit, staff admitted it

After we went back to the office, the staff acknowledged what we already knew—it was too tight.

They gave us four additional site options.

Unfortunately, every one of them had the same problem.

Too tight.
Too many obstacles.
Too stressful.

We made the decision to leave.

And honestly, getting out felt like relief.

6. Why it feels tighter now

Part of the challenge is the mature landscaping.

There are sanctuary tree protections and restrictions on trimming or removing certain trees and shrubs, which means vegetation has grown in heavily over time.

It makes the park beautiful—but also makes maneuvering much harder for larger coaches.

7. Motorcoach-only and unique ownership model

This is a Class A motorcoach-only resort and one of the earlier resorts that introduced individually owned RV lots.

That gives it a unique upscale residential feel, but it also means lot sizes and layouts vary quite a bit.

Honest Opinion

Hilton Head Island Motorcoach Resort is still a beautiful resort in an unbeatable location.

But here’s the honest truth:

We loved it in our smaller RV.
We would absolutely go back in a smaller coach.
We would not return in our 45-foot big rig.

If you have a smaller Class A or compact coach and want to be right on Hilton Head Island near everything, this can be an amazing stay.

But if you’re in a 45-foot luxury coach with multiple slides, be very cautious.

The stress of getting in (and out) simply wasn’t worth it for us.
